Terriers Wrap Up Bruno Classic with Win Over Saint Francis (PA)

PROVIDENCE, RI – The St. Francis Brooklyn women's water polo team concluded the Bruno Invitational on Sunday, February 3, finishing the opening tournament of the season. The Terriers fell to California Lutheran and Brown on Saturday. The Terriers won the third and final game of the opening tournament by defeating Saint Francis (PA), 12-6.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 5 | California Lutheran – 13
  • The Terriers put up an effort, but simply weren't able to stop Cal Lutheran. The Regals came out strong and, thanks to several man up plays, took a significant lead in the first quarter. The Terriers' captain Kelsey Snelgar retaliated once, and so the Terriers took a break at the end of the first quarter down by three goals, with the score being 4-1.
  • The second quarter was close, the Terriers surrendered two goals and tallied one. The Terriers trailed at halftime, 6-2.
  • Team captain Kelsey Snelgar added three more goals to her original, totaling four goals in the game. Nicole Herrick added one tally.  
St. Francis Brooklyn – 8 | Brown – 16
  • Similar to their first game of the day, the Terriers fell behind early. They trailed after the first half, 6-3.
  • The Terriers didn't follow the tempo of the game in the second half, ultimately falling 16-8 at the end of the duel.
  • Kelsey Snelgar rattled the cage an impressive five times and recorded three steals.
  • A single tally was added by Sara Monckton, Erin Gonzalez, and Bianca Gonzalez.
  • A significant contribution was made by freshman Zoe Drobenko, who drew three exclusions before being rolled out of the game.
  • Nicole Herrick registered two assists, while Tate Renata, Natalie Mahalec, and Bianca Gonzalez each added an assist.
St. Francis Brooklyn – 12 | Saint Francis (PA) – 6
  • In the final matchup of the invitational, the Terriers overwhelmed the Red Flash by a significant margin. The Terriers held the ball from the first period and refused to give the opponent a chance to make a comeback. The final score was 12-6 in favor of the St. Francis women's water polo team.
  • Kelsey Snelgar scored a staggering seven goals. She also registered an assist and five steals.
  • Another shooter for the Terriers was Bianca Gonzalez, who rattled the opponent's cage three times.
  • Nicole Herrick added a goal and registered three assists, while Erin Gonzalez added a goal and a assist, as well. 
UP NEXT:
The Terriers travel to Princeton University on Saturday, February 9, to play against George Washington and Princeton, respectively.
