PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's water polo team kicked off the La Salle Invite with a pair of tight contests, dropping their opening match by just one point to Salem, but bouncing back in their second match of the day with an overtime win over Gannon.

The Terriers were close throughout the four periods, but never quite made it over the hump against their first opponent of the day. After being outscored 5-3 in the first quarter, the following two were stalemates, and headed into fourth two points was just enough of a buffer for Salem to pull out the victory.
Sydney Devroedt led the way for the Terriers with five goals and five steals, both team highs. Meanwhile in goal, MK McKendry returned to action totaling three saves and two assists. Mia Leto also converted two of her six attempted shots.

The Terriers returned to the pool later in the afternoon looking for a bounce back win, and got off to a promising start with a 5-2 advantage after the first quarter. The three point lead was maintained until the third quarter, when Gannon started to chip away at the lead, and eventually forced overtime.
Sydney Devroedt had another strong performance with five goals scored off nine shots, and Mia Leto once again lent a helping hand with two goals of her own.
Splitting time with MK McKendry, this time Terriers goalkeeper Elsah Nijdam tallied up eight saves and four steals in the one point overtime victory.
NEXT UP: St. Francis Brooklyn has two more matches scheduled for tomorrow, including an 8:30 a.m. start against Mercyhurst, and an afternoon rematch with Salem at 2:30 p.m.
