POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's water polo team returned on action on Saturday, Feb. 26, at Marist College as part of the Courtney Fisher Invite
The Terriers face some of their toughest competition this season in two matches, facing No. 14 Wagner and No. 25 Marist.
St. Francis Brooklyn 5 No. 14 Wagner
Facing its toughest competition of the season, the Terriers worked hard to keep pace with the 14th ranked Seahawks. Wagner scored seven consecutive goals in the opening period.
St. Francis got on the board in the second with a goal by Sydney Devroedt, but trailed 16-1 at halftime.
Devroedt made it two goals in the third period, then the Terriers added on three in the third (Natalie Mahalec [2}, Najhe London). Wagner scored their tenth consecutive victory with a 20-5 win.
SFBK goalies Olivia Gallego Saez and Elsah Nijdam each made five saves on Saturday afternoon with Nijdam scoreing two steals.
St. Francis Brooklyn 8 No. 25 Marist 21
The Terriers closed the day out against the hosts of the Courtney Fisher Invite. Marist came out strong, totaling 8 goals in the first period and finishing. They led 12-4 at the halfway mark.
Sofia Kolovou was the high point for the Terriers finding the back of the net four times in the match, and three times in the third period to help cut the Red Foxes lead to 14-7.
Marist scored 7 more in the fourth period to secure the 21-8 win on Saturday night.
Saez and Nijdam split time in net again against Marist. Saez making 2 saves and 5 steals, allowing 17 goals; while Nijdam made 3 saves and 2 steals in the fourth period.
NEXT UP: St. Francis returns to the pool for the La Salle Invite Mar. 12-13. The Terriers are scheduled to face Salem, Gannon and Mercyhurst over the two-day competition in Philadelphia.
