Volleyball Takes Part in Big Apple Battle this Weekend

The Terriers (4-6) are back on the court on Friday, September 14, at 2 p.m. when they travel to Columbia (3-3) to take on the Lions. The teams last met on September 16, 2017, a match that Columbia won, 3-1.
 
The Lions enter the Friday afternoon match winners of their last two contests. Last weekend, Columbia went (2-1) in the Blue Hen Invitational on the campus of Delaware. The Lions defeated Marist, 3-0, and Delaware, 3-2.

St. Francis Brooklyn goes from Manhattan to the Bronx for its two matchups on Saturday. The Terriers' first match of the day is at 10 a.m. against host institution Fordham. St. Francis Brooklyn and Fordham last went head-to-head on Saturday, September 16, 2017. The Rams defeated the Terriers, 3-0, in the 2017 version of the Big Apple Battle.
 
Fordham comes into the match playing .500 volleyball at (5-5). The Rams are winners of their last three matches. They knocked off Eastern Kentucky, 3-2, on Friday and followed that up with a win over Cal State Fullerton, 3-0, on Saturday. The Rams picked up the third win of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday, a 3-0 defeat of Manhattan.

The Terriers conclude their non-conference schedule on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Ivy League foe Dartmouth (2-4). The Big Green has won two of their last three matches, which all came in the Dartmouth Invitational last weekend. The Big Green earned wins over Siena, 3-0, and Lafayette, 3-0, before falling to Boston College, 3-0.
 
EARLY SEASON ACCOLADES:
Junior Taris Pittman and freshman Kizzy Rodriguez were both honored for their standout play following their first three matches of the season. Pittman was named to the Eagle Challenge All-Tournament Team, while Rodriguez was tabbed a Prime Performer by the Northeast Conference.
 
Rodriguez and junior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery earned 2018 Terrier Invitational All-Tournament Team recognition (Aug. 31 – Sep. 1). On Tuesday, September 4, Rodriguez was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week. Rodriguez becomes the first student-athlete in program history to claim the NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. She is also the first freshman to take home the award since LIU Brooklyn's Natalia Rivera did so in 2016.
 
MEET THE TERRIERS:
The Terriers return 12 student-athletes to the team this season and have added three freshmen to round out the roster of 15.
 
Fourth-year head coach Abra Rummel leads the Terriers; she's assisted by first assistant/recruiting coordinator Andy Mueller and Domenique Gerard.
 
UP NEXT:
The Terriers open up NEC league play on Friday, September 21, at 6 p.m. when they travel to Fairfield, CT to take on Sacred Heart University. They will then continue their road trip on Saturday, September 22, when they take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 4 p.m.
