Volleyball Continues NEC Play With Weekend Matches Against CCSU & Bryant

The Terriers (5-10, 1-1 NEC) return to Brooklyn Heights to face Central Connecticut State (5-8, 2-0 NEC) on Friday, September 28 at 4 p.m. The Blue Devils are coming off a (2-0) opening weekend of NEC play as they scored wins over Robert Morris and Saint Francis (PA). The Terriers split their opening league series with Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson last season. St. Francis Brooklyn earned its first conference win of the season last Saturday, a 3-1 defeat of the Knights.

Bryant first will face LIU Brooklyn on Friday before making a stop in the Genovesi Center for its Saturday afternoon matchup with the Terriers. The Bulldogs currently have a record of (12-7, 2-0 NEC) and are winners of three matches in a row.

  • Junior Wies Hurkmans ranks third in hitting percentage (.297).
  • Junior Taris Pittman ranks ninth in hitting percentage (.256).
  • Junior Sidney Colvey is tied for seventh in kills per set (2.62).
  • Senior Nina Tiedt ranks sixth in assists per set (6.51) and second in service aces per set (0.39).
  • Senior Gabriella Nobrega is seventh in assists per set (6.06).
  • Senior Mireya Ramirez ranks tied for third in the conference in service aces per set (0.36).
  • Freshman Kizzy Rodriguez ranks second in digs per set (4.25) and fourth in total digs (221).
EARLY SEASON ACCOLADES:
Junior Taris Pittman and freshman Kizzy Rodriguez were both honored for their standout play following their first three matches of the season. Pittman was named to the Eagle Challenge All-Tournament Team, while Rodriguez was tabbed a Prime Performer by the Northeast Conference.
 
Rodriguez and junior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery earned 2018 Terrier Invitational All-Tournament Team recognition (Aug. 31 – Sep. 1). On Tuesday, September 4, Rodriguez was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week. Rodriguez becomes the first student-athlete in program history to claim the NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. She is also the first freshman to take home the award since LIU Brooklyn's Natalia Rivera did so in 2016.
 
Rodriguez claimed the NEC Co-Rookie of the Week on September 24. Rodriguez recorded 45 digs and 6.43 digs per set in a 1-1 opening weekend of NEC play. The freshman tallied 13 digs in the NEC opener against Sacred Heart on Friday, September 21. She then followed up that outing with a career-high 32-dig performance in a win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, September 22.

The Terriers go on the road to face Robert Morris on Saturday, October 5, at 7 p.m. in Moon Township, PA. St. Francis Brooklyn concludes its annual Pennsylvania trip against Saint Francis (PA) on Saturday, October 6, at 5 p.m. in Loretto.
