Terriers Topped by Duquesne & Penn in Valley Forge Sports Invitational Finale

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's volleyball team (4-5) fell to Duquesne (4-6) and Penn (5-1) on the final day of the Valley Forge Invitational on Saturday. The Terriers wrapped up this weekend's tournament with a 1-2 record as it earned a four-set triumph over Chicago State during the first day of the event on Friday.
 
Senior middle blocker Wies Hurkmans and sophomore outside hitter Una Stevic were each named to the Valley Forge Invitational All-Tournament Team for their efforts over the Terriers' three matches. Hurkmans recorded 16 kills, six blocks, and hit .316 during the tournament. Stevic led the Terriers with 49 kills, 4.45 kills per set, 29 digs, 2.64 digs per set, and she hit .250. The sophomore registered two double-doubles over three matches this weekend.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | Duquesne – 3 (24-26, 25-23, 21-25, 12-25)
  • The Terriers had a trio finish the match with double figures in kills. Stevic led the way for St. Francis as she tallied her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 15 kills and 10 digs. Additionally, the sophomore totaled 21.5 points and notched a career-high six service aces in the contest.
  • Senior middle blocker Taris Pittman notched her second double-digit kill performance of the season. The senior finished the match with 10 kills and hit a team-high .318 as she accounted for 10 points
  • Senior opposite hitter Sidney Colvey registered a season-high with 10 kills as she hit .250 on 24 attempts.
  • Sophomore setter Angelee Ng dished out 36 assists and totaled eight digs. Ng has handed out 30 or more assists six times this season and the Duquesne match marked the fourth match in a row that she did so.
  • Sophomore libero Kizzy Rodriguez recorded a team-high 17 digs to anchor the Terriers' defense.
  • Hurkmans totaled six kills, one block, and a hitting percentage of .308.
St. Francis Brooklyn – 0 | Penn – 3 (13-25, 24-26, 23-25)
  • Stevic was the lone Terrier to finish the match with 10-plus kills. She was just one dig shy of another double-double as she recorded 12 kills and nine digs. Stevic tallied 13.5 points and hit .250.
  • Colvey and junior outside hitter Ally Speweik each notched five kills apiece, while Pittman tallied four kills from the middle.
  • Ng totaled 16 assists and Rodriguez had a team-high 10 digs.
  • Freshman setter Ivana Marrero played in three sets and dished out nine assists and recorded four digs. Junior Genesis Soto notched a team-high three service aces and picked up a pair of digs in the match.
