Terriers Roll to NEC Road Victory over Merrimack on Saturday

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's volleyball team (8-11, 2-3 NEC) rolled to its eighth win of the season and second in conference play over NEC newcomer Merrimack (1-12, 0-6 NEC) on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers defeated the Warriors in straight sets en route to their second consecutive victory.
 
St. Francis tallied its best hitting day of the season as the Terriers compiled a .295 team hitting percentage and notched 44 kills over three sets. St. Francis combined for 43 assists, 43 digs, and eight blocks in the match.
 
A balanced team effort afforded the Terriers' their second win in as many contests and their first conference road victory of the season. Six student-athletes hit .250 or better in the match, while four of them hit .300 or better.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Una Stevic led the Terriers' attack with 10 kills and recorded her second consecutive double-double as she had 15 digs as well. The sophomore accounted for a team-high 14 points as she hit .259, recorded three service aces, and two blocks. It was the eighth time this season that she tallied a double-double which is a team-high.
  • Senior Lauren Montgomery had an explosive match from the outside with nine kills on 20 attempts and hit .400. Montgomery's nine kills were her most since September 28, against Bryant when she totaled 11.
  • Junior Ally Speweik continued her hot hitting as she hit .368 and totaled nine kills. It was the fourth-straight match that she has hit over .300. Since the match against Penn on September 14, Speweik has hit .300 or higher in nine out of her last 11 matches played.
  • Junior middle blocker Danae Barkley registered a season-high seven kills on .333 hitting. Barkley recorded a pair of blocks to go alongside her seven kills.
  • Senior Sidney Colvey hit a team-best .600 and tallied three kills on five attempts for the Terriers. Colvey has hit .300 or better seven times in a match this season.
  • Setter Angelee Ng and Ivana Marrero accounted for 40 of the team's 43 assists in the match. Ng dished out a match-high 29 assists and totaled five digs, while Marrero handed out 11 assists.
  • Sophomore libero Kizzy Rodriguez finished the match with 10 digs. She has recorded double-digits in digs in six-straight matches and has done so in 16 out of 18 matches played this season.

The Terriers return to action on Wednesday, October 16, when they head over to local rival LIU for a 6 p.m. match.
