Terriers Fall to Siena & Hampton on Day One of Bucknell Classic

LEWISBURG, PA – St. Francis College Brooklyn (3-2) fell to Siena (1-2) and Hampton (3-1) on the first day of the Bucknell Classic in Lewisburg, PA. The Terriers were defeated in three sets by the Saints in the opening match of the tournament. In St. Francis' second match of the day, it battled for five sets with Hampton, but the Pirates came out on top after taking the deciding set, 17-15.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
St. Francis Brooklyn – 0 | Siena – 3 (21-25, 18-25, 22-25)
  • Sophomore Una Stevic recorded 13 kills and eight digs over the three sets against the Saints. The 13 kills marked the fourth match in a row that the outside hitter tallied at least 13 in a match.
  • Senior middle blocker Wies Hurkmans registered five kills and hit .364 on 11 attempts. Hurkmans has hit .333 or higher in each of the first four matches this season as she's paced the Terriers in the middle. Additionally, she led the team in blocks with three in the match.
  • Junior Ally Speweik totaled five kills and hit .300 in the match. The outside notched three digs and a pair of blocks.
  • Reigning NEC Co-Player of the Week sophomore setter Angelee Ng dished out 17 assists and recorded 12 digs.
  • Sophomore libero Kizzy Rodriguez finished the match with 17 digs and three assists for the Terriers.  
St. Francis Brooklyn – 2 | Hampton – 3 (25-17, 15-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-17)
  • Stevic continued to be the Terriers' driving force on offense as she notched a career-high 19 kills. It's already the second time on the young season that the sophomore has set a career-best in kills. The native of Belgrade, Serbia also tallied 13 digs en route to her third double-double in five matches this season. Stevic has recorded 13 or more kills in every match thus far.
  • Hurkmans tallied a season-high 10 kills in the match as she hit a blistering .421 in the middle. The senior also set a season-high with 11.5 points in the contest.
  • Speweik matched Hurkmans with 10 kills as she hit .290 and totaled 11 points. It was the second time in five matches that she registered double-digits in kills.
  • Senior Lauren Montgomery totaled nine kills, while senior middle blocker Taris Pittman registered six on .375 hitting.
  • Ng dished out 32 assists and tallied nine digs over five sets. She has recorded 30 or more assists in three out of the Terriers first five matches this season.
  • Senior Sidney Colvey came off the bench to notch five kills as she hit .308.
  • Rodriguez made it five-straight double-digit dig performances to start the season as she totaled 17 against Hampton.

The Terriers continue their road swing as they head to the UPenn Tournament in Philadelphia, PA. St. Francis will compete in a trio of matches next weekend beginning with a meeting against Chicago State on Friday, September 13, at noon. The Terriers have a pair of matches on their docket for Saturday, September 14. They face Duquesne at 1:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with tournament host Pennsylvania at 5 p.m.
