Terriers Fall to LIU Brooklyn in Four Sets on Senior Day

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – The St. Francis Brooklyn women's volleyball team (9-17, 5-7 NEC) competed at a high-level, but was topped by LIU Brooklyn (14-7, 11-1 NEC) in four sets on Friday.
 
The loss snaps a season-high four-match winning streak, which began on October 19, against Sacred Heart. The four-match winning streak marked the first time in program history that it won four-straight NEC contests.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | LIU Brooklyn – 3 (26-24, 21-25, 21-25, 22-25)
  • The reigning NEC Player of the Week, senior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery picked up right where she left off last week as she recorded a team-high 16 kills. The junior hit .257 and tallied 16.5 points.
  • Junior middle blocker Taris Pittman registered a career-high 15 kills, while hitting .286. Pittman has been strong for the Terriers in the middle, as she has notched double-digits in kills in back-to-back matches.
  • Junior middle blocker Wies Hurkmans had another efficient night for the Terriers. She totaled 10 kills and hit a team-best .400. Hurkmans has tallied 10 or more kills in three out of her last four matches.
  • Senior setter Nina Tiedt dished out a game-high 44 assists. The 40-plus assist performance was her sixth of the season. She has recorded 40 or more assists in each of the last five matches.
  • Freshman Kizzy Rodriguez, the reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week notched a team-high 16 digs.
  • Sophomore Vanja Miljacic finished the match with six kills and 14 digs.

The Terriers go on the road to wrap up their 2018 regular season slate against Central Connecticut on Friday, November 9, followed by a meeting with Bryant on Saturday, November 10.
