NEW YORK, NY – The St. Francis Brooklyn women's volleyball team (4-7) fell to Columbia (4-3) in straight sets on Friday afternoon in the opening match of the 2018 Big Apple Battle.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 0 | Columbia – 3 (19-25, 24-26, 12-25)
The Terriers and Lions opened up the match trading points before Columbia would go on a 12-4 run to take the first set, 25-19. The second set featured another back-and-forth affair, with the Lions coming out on top, 26-24. Columbia took the third and final set, 25-12 to pick up its third win in a row.
Sophomore
Ally Speweik led the Terriers with eight kills. Junior
Lauren Montgomery added seven kills, while sophomore
Vanja Miljacic added five kills. Sophomore
Angie Speweik recorded a team-high 10 digs; her 10-dig performance marked the fourth time this season that she has totaled double figures in digs.
Freshman
Kizzy Rodriguez recorded seven digs. Senior Gabriella Nobrega dished out 14 assists, which was a team-high. She also notched seven digs. Junior
Wies Hurkmans and Freshman
Una Stevic both totaled three kills and hit .333 respectively.

The Terriers are back in action tomorrow to wrap up non-conference play in the Big Apple Battle. They will travel to the Bronx to face Fordham at 10 a.m., followed by a meeting with Dartmouth at 1 p.m.
