The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers (4-13, 1-2 Northeast Conference) hosted the Bryant University Bulldogs (10-8, 3-0) on Friday evening at the Genovesi Center in the Terriers' Northeast Conference home opener, with the Bulldogs coming away with a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-14, 27-25, 25-11).
How it happened:
The Terriers overcame a 10-1 deficit to win the first set, keyed by a run of seven consecutive points which tied the score at 15-15, and taking down the final three points to seal the set at 25-21. After Bryant posted a comfortable win in the second set, the Terriers had two match points (24-23 and 25-24) in set number three before the Bulldogs scored the final three points. Bryant closed out the match by taking the fourth set.
Carla Hernandez led the Terriers on the attack with 12 kills and added 10 digs.
Lainie Putt added nine kills, a team-leading four blocks (one solo and three assists).
Iva Vranic and Camelia Melendez each recorded six kills, with Vranic adding three blocks (one solo).
Alasha Colon paced the defense with 20 digs.
Angelee Ng racked up 34 assists and contributed to the defense with 18 digs.
St. Francis will be right back in action on Saturday for a 4:00 match against Merrimack College.
