Terriers Defeat Red Flash in Come from Behind Fashion to Pick up 13th Win of Season

LORETTO, PA – The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's volleyball team (13-16, 6-8 NEC) picked up its 13th win of the season in thrilling fashion on Friday night. The Terriers defeated Saint Francis (PA) (3-22, 3-10 NEC) in five sets in their first match on their annual Western Pennsylvania trip. The 13 wins are the most for the Terriers in a single-season since 1999 when they won 14 matches.
 
After falling in the first two sets of the match, St. Francis rallied to earn wins in the final three games to secure the victory. Tonight's win marks the Terriers' third of the season in five sets, it was the first time this season that they rallied back from a 2-0 deficit to win a match. St. Francis last won a match in five sets after dropping the opening two games on October 27, 2018, when it defeated Saint Francis (PA) at the Genovesi Center.
 
The Red Flash stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the match after taking the opening set, 25-22, and then the second set, 27-25. With their backs against the wall down, 2-0, the Terriers fought from behind. St. Francis began the come from behind attack by taking the third set, 25-21. Following the third set victory, the Terriers took the down the Red Flash, 25-15, to force a deciding fifth set. St. Francis continued to roll as it picked up a 15-9 win in the fifth set to earn its 13th win of the year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior outside hitter Vanja Miljacic recorded her third-straight double-double as she finished the match with a team-high 13 kills and 16 digs. She totaled a pair of block assists and two service aces as she racked up a team-best 16 points in the win. It was the fourth time this season that she recorded 15 or more digs in a match and it was the third time that she did it in her last four matches.
  • Junior opposite hitter Ally Speweik hit a team-high .526 and registered 11 kills over five sets. Speweik added three block assists, two digs, and 12.5 points en route to victory.
  • Senior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery finished just one kill shy of a double-double. Montgomery slammed down nine kills and racked up 10 digs in the match.
  • Sophomore outside hitter Una Stevic recorded eight kills and hit .333 for the Terriers.
  • Sophomore libero Kizzy Rodriguez notched 20 digs and a career-high six service aces. It was the 11th this season that the NEC digs leader registered 20 or more digs in a match.
  • Freshman setter Ivana Marrero dished out a career-high 26 assists and tallied a career-high 17 digs. It was the second time this season that Marrero totaled 26 assists in a match.
  • Freshman setter Jaimie Timbol played all five sets and handed out a career-high 14 digs and picked up a career-best 10 digs.
