Terriers Conclude Big Apple Battle at Fordham

BRONX, NY – The St. Francis Brooklyn women's volleyball team (4-9) concluded play this afternoon at the Big Apple Battle hosted by Columbia and Fordham. The Terriers dropped a pair of matches today; they fell to Fordham, 3-1, and Dartmouth, 3-0. The annual New York City tournament was hosted on the campus of Columbia on Friday and wrapped up on the campus of Fordham today.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | Fordham – 3 (17-25, 25-17, 12-25, 22-25)
  • Sophomore Ally Speweik notched a team-high 12 kills, which was one off her season high (recorded 13 kills on August 25 vs. Bradley). It was the fifth time this season that she recorded 10 or more kills in a match.
  • Junior Wies Hurkmans finished with eight kills, the second-most that she has tallied in a match this season.
  • Sophomore Vanja Miljacic recorded seven kills and five digs.
  • Freshman Kizzy Rodriguez totaled 16 digs, her ninth double-digit dig performance of the season.
  • Senior Gabriella Nobrega dished out 22 assists and tallied four digs. 
St. Francis Brooklyn – 0 | Dartmouth – 3 (16-25, 16-25, 19-25)
  • Ally Speweik and junior Sidney Colvey tied for the team-high with five kills apiece.
  • Hurkmans tallied four kills and hit .500.
  • Nobrega had a team-high 11 digs and dished out five assists.
  • Rodriguez had her 10th double-digit dig performance as she notched 10 in the match.  
UP NEXT:
The Terriers open up NEC league play on Friday, September 21, at 6 p.m. when they travel to Fairfield, CT to take on Sacred Heart University. They will then continue their road trip on Saturday, September 22, when they take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 4 p.m.
