BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - St. Francis Brooklyn women's volleyball fell to St. Francis (PA) 3-0 Saturday afternoon to finish the weekend road trip with a 1-1 record. The Terriers battled the Red Flash but fell behind early and were unable to catch up in the three sets.
Camelia Meléndez led the way with seven kills, followed by six for
Cristal Paulino. Alasha Colón had a strong day, contributing 19 digs.
In a back-and-forth first set, the Red Flash used a 5-0 run to take a 13-9 edge and was able to hang on to win the set. The Terriers cut the deficit to two points at 16-14 after a Red Flash attack error, but only managed four more points for the remainder of the set.
The second set saw another St. Francis (PA) run carry the hosts to a lead and the Terriers kept close but never tied the score. An ace by Giulia Cefalu cut it to 19-16, but another run for St. Francis (PA) led to another win. A kill by Skye Eicher gave the Red Flash a 2-0 edge.
Despite taking an early lead in the third set, an 8-2 run for St. Francis (PA) turned the tides. The Terriers battled back to bring the score within one after two kills by Arianna Ugolini but did not take a lead. The Red Flash would go on to score three straight points from there and took the set 25-21.
The Terriers will return home for the final two matches of the regular season against Merrimack and Stonehill Friday and Saturday. Friday's matchup with Merrimack begins at 5 p.m.
