HARTFORD, CT– The St. Francis College Brooklyn Women's Volleyball team (5-8) fell to the Leopards of Lafayette College (10-5), and to the Hawks of the University of Hartford (7-7) on the final afternoon at the Hartford Tournament on the college's campus.
The Terriers were defeated in a five-set thriller by the Leopards in the opening match of Saturday afternoon's edition of the Hartford Tournament. In the following match against the Hawks, the Terriers fought their way to four sets, but the Hawks would claim victory in the deciding set by a score of 25-18.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 2 | Lafayette 3 (20-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-15, 11-15)
- Junior opposite hitter Ally Speweik logged a team-high 13 points in the match. She would register 12 kills, and a pair of block assists in the four sets the Ohio native competed.
- Senior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery tallied 6.5 points, added a dig, and killed six. The Maryland native would also add a block assist in the match.
- Sophomore outside and opposite hitter Una Stevic recorded 7.5 points in four sets. The Belgrade, Serbia product added 11 digs, added a solo block, and block assist.
- Junior outside hitter Vanja Miljacic registered 11 points, six digs, notched a pair of service aces, and added seven kills to her first-match resume. The Serbian would also earn a solo block, and a pair of block assists.
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | Hartford 3 (25-17, 17-25, 15-25, 18-25)
- Senior middle blocker Taris Pittman registered 17.5 points, while tallying 7 block assists. The Washington D.C. native would contribute a pair of digs, and 14 kills during the final match of the afternoon.
- Junior outside hitter Vanja Miljacic logged 14.5 points, and recorded a dozen digs and kills in five sets played.
- Senior middle blocker Wies Hurkmans notched 7.5 points, along with 18 total attacks. The Netherlands native would add five block assists to the match as well.
UP NEXT:
The Terriers return to the Genovesi Center on Friday, September 27 for a match against conference foe, the Sacred Heart Pioneers. The contest marks the start of Lace Up for Pediatric Cancer Weekend, and will open serve at 4 p.m.
