Women’s Volleyball Edged by Rival LIU on Wednesday Night

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's volleyball team (8-12, 2-4 NEC) was edged by its local rival LIU (6-12, 5-1 NEC) in four sets on Wednesday night at the Steinberg Wellness Center on the campus of LIU (Brooklyn).

The Terriers came out strong as they took the opening set, 25-15, in electric fashion. It marked the first time that St. Francis took a set off of LIU at the Steinberg Wellness Center since October 29, 2016.

After the Terriers came away with the first set, the Sharks rallied to rattle off wins in the second, third, and fourth sets respectively to take the match in four sets. LIU picked up its fifth win of the season, which is currently the third most in the Northeast Conference (NEC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | LIU – 3 (25-15, 16-25, 20-25, 13-25)
  • Sophomore libero Kizzy Rodriguez recorded a match-high 26 digs for the Terriers over the course of four sets. It was the seventh time this season that the libero recorded 20 or more digs in a match and the third time that she did so in conference play. The 26 digs are the most for Rodriguez since she registered 28 against Bryant on September 28.
  • Junior Ally Speweik registered a team-best 10 points in the match as she totaled eight kills and hit .300. It was the fifth match in a row that Speweik hit .300 or better and the 10th time that she has done so over her last 12 contests. The junior registered three digs and two blocks to go along with her eight kills.
  • Sophomore Una Stevic registered six kills and two digs, while senior co-captain Taris Pittman notched five kills of her own.
  • Freshman setter Ivana Marrero dished out a team-high 15 assists, while sophomore setter Angelee Ng totaled 14 handouts.
