Women’s Volleyball Edged by Central Connecitcut State

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's volleyball team (12-16, 5-8 NEC) was defeated by Central Connecticut State (11-13, 7-5 NEC) in four sets on Saturday afternoon. It was the second time this season that the Blue Devils came out on top of the Terriers.
 
St. Francis began the match on the right note as it knocked off Central Connecticut, 26-24, in the opening set. Central stormed back as it went on to defeat St. Francis in the next three sets of the match. The Blue Devils took the second set, 25-18, they then earned a win in the third set, 25-16. The Blue Devils clinched the match in the fourth set by edging the Terriers, 25-19, in the frame.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | Central Connecticut State – 3 (26-24, 18-25, 16-25, 19-25)
  • Junior outside hitter Vanja Miljacic recorded her second double-double in as many matches for the Terriers. The junior recorded a team-best 13 kills and picked up 14 digs en route to her fifth double-double performance of the season. Additionally, she totaled 13 points, which were the second-most by a Terrier in the match.
  • Senior outside hitter Lauren Montgomery recorded a team-high 13.5 points as she finished the match with 10 kills and a career-high seven block assists. It was Montgomery's third-straight match with 10-plus kills and her sixth match where she recorded double figures in kills out of her last eight.
  • Junior opposite hitter Ally Speweik was the third Terrier to total double-digits in kills as she finished the contest with 10.
  • Defensively, the Terriers had the trio of Kizzy Rodriguez, Cristina Robles and Genesis Soto account for 60 out of the team's 90 digs.
  • Rodriguez registered a team-high 27 digs over the four sets as she notched 20 or more digs in two out of her last three matches. She has recorded 20 or more digs in a match 10 times this year.
  • Robles and Soto both passed tremendously for the Terriers in the match as well. Robles recorded a career-high 19 digs, while Soto tallied a career-high tying 14 digs.
  • Sophomore setter Angelee Ng dished out a match-high 32 assists for the Terriers. It was the third match in a row that the sophomore collected 30 or more assists.

St. Francis embarks on its annual Western Pennsylvania road trip next weekend, which begins on Friday, November 8, at Saint Francis (PA) at 7 p.m. Following the meeting with the Red Flash, the Terriers then face Robert Morris on Saturday, November 9, at 5 p.m.
