Women’s Volleyball Announces Addition of Makenzi Abelman

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – St. Francis College Brooklyn women's volleyball Head Coach Amable Martinez announced the addition of graduate transfer, Makenzi Abelman, to the Terriers' 2020 roster. Abelman comes to St. Francis from California State Fullerton, where she graduated with her Bachelor's degree in three years and was a member of the women's volleyball program.
 
"Makenzi adds great size and high-level experience to a vital position on the court; we are very excited to add her to our Terrier volleyball family!" Said Coach Martinez while discussing the addition of the setter.
 
Abelman is a 6-foot-1, setter from Las Vegas, NV. She appeared in 61 matches and recorded 1,126 assists and 6.70 assists per set over the course of her three-year career with the Titans. This past season, the Las Vegas native tallied a career-high 739 assists and 8.59 assists per set for California State Fullerton.
 
She became just the 13th student-athlete in Titans' program history to register over 1,000 assists. Additionally, Abelman recorded 33 kills, 170 digs, and 38 total blocks during her junior campaign.
 
On September 23, 2019, Abelman was named to the UCR Classic All-Tournament Team after dishing out 88 assists and 8.80 assists per set over two matches (10 total sets). The setter recorded a career-high 57 assists in a five-set win over Prairie View on September 14, 2019.
 
Abelman attended Durango High School before her undergraduate career at California State Fullerton. While at Durango, she played three years of varsity volleyball and was tabbed First Team All-Conference and All-State Academic Team during her senior year. She also was named Max Preps Player of the Week for Nevada, earned Female Athlete of the Year honors, and was the Las Vegas Sun Citizen of the Year.
 
She is the daughter of Nikol and Will Abelman and has one sibling, named Ryan. She will begin to pursue her M.S. in Management with a concentration in Social Innovation when she arrives in Brooklyn Heights this coming Fall. Abelman interned at a criminal defense attorney's office, worked with juveniles and adult clients, and youth mentored at the Watts Empowerment Center this past Summer.
