BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - St. Francis Brooklyn women's swimming and diving fell to LIU 185-130 in the Battle at Brooklyn this weekend. Despite the loss, the Terriers had several top finishes.
On day one, St. Francis opened a 68-61 lead through 14 events. Despite LIU winning the 200-yard freestyle, the Terriers took second, third and fourth. Boel Bergquist finished just behind the victor (1:58.32), followed by Jenna Pearse (2:00.52) and Mariajose Lopez (2:00.71).
Anapaula Gomez and Elayna Pistrin finished first and second in the 400-yard IM. Both times (4:40.15 and 4:40.20) were good enough for personal bests.
The Terriers swept the 1650-yard freestyle, with Lopez taking the win with a time of 17:44.78. Laetitia Bouc (18:25.94) and Melie Boulianne (18:59.86) followed suit with second and third place finishes.
Similarly to the 200-yard freestyle, the Terriers were unable to grab a first-place finish but took second, third and fourth. Kristy Nagtzaam led the way (25.17) followed by Lorenza Kobaic (25.59) and Raquel Torrez (25.60).
St. Francis Brooklyn ended day one with a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Bergquist, Kobaic, Torrez and Nagtzaam teamed up for a time of 1:39.06, defeating LIU by .3 seconds.
On day two, Lopez notched the first win of the day and her second of the meet in the 500-yard freestyle. She was followed by Gomez and Boulianne finished fourth.
Pistrin followed that with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.36). She also had a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke to begin the day (1:07.35).
Bouc (100-yard butterfly), Bergquist (100-yard freestyle) and Kobaic (100-yard backstroke) all finished second in their respective events.
The Terriers are back in action December 2-4 at ECAC Championships in East Meadow, NY.
