KINGS POINT, NY – St. Francis Brooklyn women's swimming and diving defeated the United States Merchant Marine Academy Sunday afternoon. The Terriers won by a score of 157-143, totaling their third win against four opponents this weekend.
The 200-yard medley relay team kicked things off with a win as Boel Bergquist, Elayna Pistrin, Kristy Nagtzaam and Raquel Torrez teamed up for a time of 1:50.63. They won by just under a second over USMMA's top squad.
Mariajose Lopez won the 1000-yard freestyle in the following event. Her time of 10:45.67 was the only one to beat the 11-minute mark. Laetitia Bouc (11:18.83) and Melie Boulianne (11:23.01) finished third and fourth respectively. Lopez won the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.84) and finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.06).
Abby Scruton won the 1-meter dive, compiling a score of 247.72, good enough for another team record. Her score was nearly 30 points clear of her next-closest suitor.
Boel Bergquist was the top finisher in the 200-yard freestyle, as she narrowly edged Lopez (1:59.51). Bergquist finished second in the 200-yard backstroke and first in the 200-yard IM (2:12.24).
Elayna Pistrin had another strong day, winning the 100-yard breaststroke by nearly two seconds (1:07.39) and 100-yard freestyle (55.09).
Laetitia Bouc and Anapaula Gomez took first and second in the 200-yard butterfly. Bouc finished in 2:13.56 and Gomez was right behind her at 2:16.51. Bouc also had a second-place result in the 100-yard butterfly (59.56).
Nagtzaam won the 50-yard freestyle, narrowly edging out two USMMA swimmers. She grabbed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.54).
The 200-yard freestyle relay capped off the win with a victory. Nagtzaam, Bouc, Lopez and Torrez teamed up to win by .29 seconds.
