GENEVA, OH – St. Francis Brooklyn women's swimming and diving continued action at the Northeast Conference Championships on Wednesday. The day was headlined by a fifth-place finish by Mariajose Lopez in the 500-yard freestyle, as the team sits in seventh with three days remaining.
Lopez qualified for the "A" finals earlier in the day, finishing the event in 5:05.11. The senior cut her time down by nearly 4.5 seconds, completing the final in 5:00.79. She was just over five seconds behind the first-place finisher.
Freshman Boel Bergquist qualified for the 'B" final in the 200-yard IM and ended up taking 16th overall. She completed her race in 2:10.71.
Kristy Nagtzaam paced the Terriers in the 50-yard freestyle, matching Bergquist by qualifying for her respective "B" final. The graduate student matched her prelim place, finishing 14th overall.
Abby Scruton jumped up over 11 points from her prelim score in the 3-meter dive with a score of 207.05. She finished 10th overall, contributing seven points to the team.
The night concluded with a sixth-place result in the 200-yard medley relay. Bergquist, Elayna Pistrin, Nagtzaam and Raquel Torrez teamed up for a time of 1:46.52, nearly matching their prelim time.
The Terriers continue action tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m.
