EAST MEADOW, NY - St. Francis Brooklyn women's swimming and diving competed in the first day of competition at ECAC Championships. The Terriers currently sit in eighth place out of 14 teams, sitting just ahead of Sacred Heart and one position behind Siena.
The Terriers kicked things off with a team record in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Lorenza Kobaic, Boel Berquist, Raquel Torrez and Kristy Nagtzaam teamed up for a seventh place finish out of 27 competitors. They finished over a second better in the finals (1:36.84) than their seed time (1:38.02).
Mariajose Lopez qualified for the 500-yard freestyle finals, and took eighth out of 24, contributing 22 team points. The senior finished sixth in the prelims and was the second-best finisher in the Northeast Conference in the finals. Teammate Anapaula Gomez also qualified for the finals and finished her race with a time of 5:18.14.
Two Terriers qualified for the 200 IM finals, as Elayna Pistrin (12th) and Boel Bergquist (15th) paced the team. Pistrin broke a team record in the prelims with a time of 2:08.28, and Bergquist went on to break that record shortly after, getting a time of 2:07.92.
Nagtzaam and Torrez both improved on their times in the 50-yard freestyle finals compared to the prelims. Nagtzaam (24.61, 24.43) finished 20th in the prelims and hopped up three spots to take 17th in the finals. Torrez (24.63, 24.56) finished just behind her teammate, improving from 22nd to 18th.
The Terriers had a finish of 11th in the 400-yard medley relay, as Kobaic, Pistrin, Nagtzaam and Bergquist combined for a time of 3:57.95.
Columbia leads the team scores with 705 points. They are followed by UMBC (284), LIU (284), Wagner (280), Monmouth (268), Stony Brook (217), Siena (204), St. Francis Brooklyn (160), Sacred Heart (159), Manhattan (54), Stonehill (52), Marist (48), Felician (20) and St. Peter's (6).
