Ana Paula Montes de Oca and Mariajose Lopez Earn NEC Weekly Awards

SOMERSET, NJ – St. Francis College Brooklyn women's swimming student-athletes Ana Paula Montes de Oca and Mariajose Lopez took home Northeast Conference (NEC) Weekly Awards as announced by the league. Montes de Oca was tabbed the NEC Co-Swimmer of the Week, while Lopez claimed the Rookie of the Week honor. It was the second time this season that the Terriers duo took home each of the respective awards.
 
Montes de Oca broke meet records in both events she competed in for the Terriers at the Iona Quad over the weekend. The Mexico City, Mexico product broke meet records in the 200 free, clocking in at 1:55.01 to beat the previous meet record of 1:56.27, and the 200 Fly with a time of 2:08.85, to also best the meet record of 2:09.97 set in 2015. Her 200 fly time is the best in the NEC this season, while the 200 free time ranks second.
 
Lopez posted a pair of first place finishes at the Iona Quad. The San Miguel de Allende, Mexico native won the 500 free, clocking in at 5:10.89 to take over the second spot on the NEC top times list this season. The two-time NEC Rookie of the Week also claimed first in the 1000 free with a time of 10:30.50 to break the meet record, and vault to the top position in the NEC season rankings.
 
The Terriers picked up a win at the Iona Quad as they knocked off NEC foe Sacred Heart, 127-116. St. Francis is back in the pool on Saturday, November 2, as its faces Mount St. Mary's in a dual meet.
