BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – St. Francis College Brooklyn women's soccer head coach Justine Lombardi has released the 2021 schedule on Monday morning. The Terriers are poised to return to a full schedule following an abbreviated spring campaign in 2020-21.
The Terriers are set to debut its third season by playing its first five of six matches on the road. The three-game road swing begins with a battle against the Peacocks of Saint Peter's University. The match will commence on Thursday, August 19. St. Francis Brooklyn then journeys to Hartford on Sunday, August 22. The pair of games between the Peacocks and Hartford mark the inaugural meetings between the Terriers and the MAAC and America East programs.
Defender Hannah Russell and newly signed forward Hailey Russell will be visiting the Broncs of Rider University to conclude its three-game road trip on Wednesday, August 25 at 7 p.m. The Russell twins played against one another in the Terriers' inaugural match in 2019. The latter, Russell, who committed to St. Francis Brooklyn, will play her first match against the Broncs, just three games into her stint on Remsen Street.
St. Francis Brooklyn opens its home schedule as the Terriers welcome the MAAC's Golden Griffins of Canisius College to Brooklyn Bridge Park – Pier 5 on Sunday, August 29. This will also mark the first meeting between the programs in its existence.
Sophomore and 2021 NEC All-Rookie Team selection Avery Gonzalez and the Terriers hit the road for its fourth and fifth road games of the season, which begins on Thursday, September 2, when they visit the University of New Hampshire. Ten days later, the Terriers will see a familiar opponent in the Bearcats of Binghamton University on Sunday, September 12. The Bearcats and Terriers battled in 2019, in St. Francis' third match in program history.
The Terriers begin Northeast Conference (NEC) competition, as they welcome in the Bulldogs of Bryant University on Thursday, September 16. St. Francis Brooklyn will then visit the Sharks of Long Island University on Sunday, September 19, on the Long Island campus in Brookville. The Terriers will hit the road for its final non-conference match as they visit the America East's Highlanders of NJIT on Wednesday, September 22, for a 7 p.m. showdown.
Captains and seniors Sarah DeWitt and Brianna Van Giesen and the Terriers will welcome Merrimack College's Warriors on Sunday, September 26. The third-year NEC program allowed a pair of unanswered goals to then-freshman Avery Gonzalez to the Terriers on March 2, 2021, which allowed St. Francis Brooklyn to obtain the program's first victory. The Terriers then visit the Pioneers of Sacred Heart on Thursday, September 30. St. Francis' second victory of the 2021 Spring season came against the Pioneers in the season finale, where then-juniors Barbara Zagonyi and Sarah DeWitt tallied a goal each to take down its rival.
St. Francis Brooklyn journeys off on its second three-game road trip of the season, as it makes its first stop in Loretto to face the Red Flash of Saint Francis University on Thursday, October 7. Junior defender Isabelle Gollette and the Terriers will welcome new NEC member Howard University to Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday, October 3. Ten days later, the Terriers visit defending NEC champion Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State on Sunday, October 17. The three-game road trip will conclude in Emmitsburg as St. Francis visits the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's (MD).
St. Francis Brooklyn will conclude its 2021 regular season schedule as they welcome the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University to Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday, October 24. Against the Knights in the Spring of 2021, forward Oormi Sivapatham and defender Isabelle Gollette each found the back of the net in Teaneck. The Terriers conclude its regular season by welcoming the Seahawks of Wagner College on Sunday, October 31, to Brooklyn Bridge Park. The Terriers and Seahawks recorded a clean sheet in their last meeting on Grymes Hill in a scoreless draw.
