RIVERDALE, NY - The St. Francis Brooklyn women' soccer team hit the road again Thursday night to kick off a pair of Empire State contests around Labor Day weekend.
The first of those contests was just north of the Bronx River as the Terriers played the program's second game against Manhattan at Gaelic Park. Both of those matches finished with a 1-0 score line in favor of the Jaspers
HOW IT HAPPENED
Klil Keshwar returned to the lineup in goal after missing the final two of games of the Terrier homestand, and was busy in her return. Keshwar faced six shots on goal in the first half and was called into action to make two saves. St. Francis recorded a pair of shots on goal in that stretch; one apiece from Barbara Zagonyi and Jess Rodriguez.
The first 42 minutes of the game went by scoreless. The 0-0 draw was broken when Manhattan's Izzy Lachcik played a ball from beyond midfield to Julia Nicholas, who finished in the bottom corner to give the Jaspers a 1-0 lead.
Despite the scoreline, the second half played out much more evenly. Margaret Motolese forced Manhattan keeper Kim Mains off her line in the 60th minute with a low shot on target. Keshwar made two saves in the second half to keep the Jaspers advantage at one, but the Terriers dropped the inter-borough battle, 1-0.
Her eight total saves are the most by Keshwar this season and the eighth time in her career she has made at least eight saves in one game.
NEXT UP: The Terriers return to Western New York on Sunday for a first-time match-up with St. Bonaventure. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
