Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls at Rider on Wednesday Evening

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ– The St. Francis Brooklyn women's soccer team (0-2, 0-0) fell to the Broncs of Rider University (2-0, 0-0) by a score of two-nil on Wednesday evening. The Terriers match in New Jersey marked the first road match of their existence. 

Sibling rivalry became the talk of the match, as defender Hannah Russell and her twin sister, forward Hailey Russell went head-to-head in a non-conference showdown.

Rider registered a pair of goals in the second half. First from Niamh Cashin in the 55' minute of action off a corner kick. The second goal was scored by forward Hailey Russell from the offensive midfield. The tally was assisted by Valeria Pascuet and Emily Curteis.

The Terriers recorded 11 shots, with four of those being on target. St. Francis College Brooklyn also tallied seven corner kicks, as opposed to three from their opponent. Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Boston recorded five saves, and the Terriers committed six fouls. All of those were in the second half.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Sophomore forward and captain Sarah DeWitt recorded a pair of shots in 90 minutes of play.
  • Freshman midfielder Margaret Motolese made her collegiate debut and recorded one shot on net in 65 minutes of action.
  • Freshman midfielder Karen Pineda made her collegiate debut and logged 37 minutes of play.
  • Midfielder Jacqueline Puda registered one shot on net in 90 minutes.
  • Freshman forward Yawara MacNeill tallied a pair of shots on goal in 90 minutes of game-time.
  • Defender Trystan Thompson-Cotterell shot wide of the net twice in 90 minutes of play.
  • Midfielder McKayla Palhof tallied one shot in 80 minutes.
  • Defender Isabelle Gollette recorded a single shot in 78 minutes of play.
  • Freshman midfielder Henriette Lykke tallied one shot in 71 minutes of action.
