FREDERICK, MD - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's bowling team popped the cork on the 2019-2020 season on Saturday at the Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's University and contested at Terrace Lanes in Frederick, Maryland. The first day of the two-day event consisted of five traditional team matches. The Terriers began the day with victories in the first two matches, before falling in the final three of the day.

St. Francis Brooklyn 928, Roberts Wesleyan University 803
The Terriers began the season with a convincing victory over Roberts Wesleyan, paced by a strong 202 game by 2019 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, sophomore
Taylor Waglione. Junior
Kimmi D'Ottavio contributed to the cause with a 197 game, and classmate
Lexis Ortiz added a clean 184 game to the team's score.

St. Francis Brooklyn 854, Daemen College 803
Waglione led St. Francis to win number two against Daemen, turning in a solid 192 score, and senior
Taylor Smith added a 185 to help the team to a 51 pin victory. Ortiz rolled 178 to aid in the victory.

Wilmington University 897, St. Francis Brooklyn 825
Ortiz posted a 180 score and D'Ottavio rolled a 175, but it wasn't enough as the Terriers fell to Wilmington University for their first loss of the season. Smith and D'Ottavio both had strings of seven consecutive spare conversions.

Youngstown State University 891, St. Francis Brooklyn 816
The Terriers dropped to 2-2 on the day in the next to last match of Saturday's proceedings, as they dropped a decision to Youngstown State. Junior
Victoria Doto was the top scorer for the Terriers with a 180, and senior
Jenna Bahnsen was next on the scoring list with a 167 game.

Felician University 987, St. Francis Brooklyn 979
In the tightest match of the day, St. Francis rolled its highest score of the afternoon but dropped a narrow verdict to Felician. Three Terriers eclipsed the 200 mark: D'Ottavio led the way with a 225, Ortiz rolled a 212, and Bahnsen rounded out the trio with a 207. D'Ottavio and Bahnsen both put together strings of five consecutive strikes during the match.

The tournament continues on Sunday with a pair of best of five Baker format matches, in which the Terriers will take on Medaille College and Mercyhurst University. The 16-team field will then be seeded by total pinfall and compete in a pair of best of seven Baker matches to determine final placings.
