FREDERICK, MD - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's bowling team came away victorious in all four matches contested on Sunday at the Mount Shootout, hosted by Mount St. Mary's University at Terrace Lanes in Frederick, Maryland. The Terriers won both of their pool play matches, which were played in a five-game total pinfall Baker format, and then won both of their best of seven Baker format bracket matches. The wins gave the Terriers a 6-3 record for the weekend in their first action of the season.
St. Francis Brooklyn 927, Medaille College 865
The morning began with the Terriers racing to a large lead over Medaille before completing a 62-pin margin of victory. Following game scores of 201, 189 and 213 in the first three games, St. Francis led by 114 pins before Medaille made a minor comeback to lessen the margin. Each of the first three games saw the Terriers with just one open frame. Junior
Lexis Ortiz was clean in all ten of her frames over the five games, starting in the third position in the lineup.
St. Francis Brooklyn 931, Mercyhurst University 821
The Terriers commenced their final match of the round-robin with a robust 244-137 margin of victory in the first game, and never looked back as they led their rivals from Mercyhurst from start to finish. The 244 was the first clean Baker game of the season for St. Francis. Junior
Kimmi D'Ottavio turned in a clean match, filling all 10 frames in the anchor position, including a tenth frame turkey in game five and a final frame double in game number two.
St. Francis Brooklyn 4, Daemen College 2
The 16 teams in the field were seeded into brackets for the second half of Sunday's action, and the Terriers saw Daemen College in the first match of the bracket. St. Francis rolled to a 2-0 lead in the best of seven encounter, winning the first two games by scores of 225-158 and 197-152. Daemen responded by tying the match, winning game three by a 203-137 margin and then taking game four by a 222-197 score. The Terriers won the match by pulling out victories in the next two games, 155-150 and 183-182. Taylor Smith struck in frame eight, Ortiz struck in the ninth, and D'Ottavio went eight count-spare-strike in the tenth.
St. Francis Brooklyn 4.5, Howard University 3.5
St. Francis closed out the day by going to distance to topple the Howard Bison. The Terriers captured game one, 189-165, before Howard evened the match with a 138-136 decision in game two. St. Francis again took the lead with a 150-147 win before Howard struck back with a 211-196 verdict. Howard gained their first match lead in game five, winning 184-177, before the teams matched 150 scores in game six. St. Francis won game seven by a 211-155 verdict, leading the match to a five-frame Baker roll-off to decide the outcome. Junior
Victoria Doto struck in frame two and Smith followed with a strike in game three, aiding St. Francis to a 96-72 win in the tie-breaker.
