Terrier Bowlers Pick Up A Pair of Wins in Houston

The St. Francis Brooklyn women's bowling team continued play at the Stephen F. Austin State University Stormin' Ladyjack Classic on Saturday, participating in five traditional team matches. The Terriers won two matches, both coming against the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University, before dropping the last three.

St. Francis Brooklyn 820, Bethune-Cookman University 814

The day began with a position round, and the Terriers were matched up against Bethune-Cookman.  St. Francis pulled out the narrowest of victories, prevailing by eight pins despite a difficult tenth frame.  Sophomore Jaclyn Bianco led the Terriers with a 169 score, classmate Taylor Smith posted a 167, and freshman Kimmi D'Ottavio and senior Megan Kuehne each rolled 166 games.

St. Francis Brooklyn 974, Bethune-Cookman 810

The teams then met in a match which was part of the regular schedule, and this time the Terriers rolled away to a decisive win.  D'Ottavio rolled a clean game, including five consecutive strikes starting in frame six, for a 242, Smith added a 212 after following her eighth-frame split with a four-strike finish, and Catone turned in a 190.

Vanderbilt University 973, St. Francis 861

The Terriers were dealt their first loss of the day when they faced the Commodores of Vanderbilt in the middle match.  It was Smith's turn to lead St. Francis, as she rolled a 193, D'Ottavio finished with a 188, and Bianco added a 166 for the Terriers.

Sam Houston State University 862, St. Francis 845

D'Ottavio rolled a 211, going clean after a first frame open, and Catone fashioned a 182 with just one open, but the Terriers came up 17 pins short against the Bearkats in the day's penultimate match.

Tulane University 990, St. Francis 845

D'Ottavio again led St. Francis with a 181 game, while Smith and Catone each came home with 176 scores. 

D'Ottavio ranked 33rd in the field with her 197.6 average for the day.

The tournament wraps up on Sunday with three best of seven Baker format matches.
