Emma Catone is closing out her Terrier bowling career this week at the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships, being contested at Sun Valley Lanes in Omaha, Nebraska. Today's competition began with all 24 bowlers rolling six qualifying games. Catone knocked down 1,275 pins over the six game block (226-223-207-207-221-191) to finish the qualifying round in fourth place.
As one of the top eight finishers, Catone earned a bye into the second round of the match play bracket. Round one takes place this afternoon, with the bowlers who qualified ninth through 24
th squaring off to determine the other eight advancers to round two.
On Wednesday morning, Catone will go up against either 13
th qualifier Taylor Davis (Arkansas State) or 20
th qualifier Arianna Campbell (Emmanuel) in a round two match, after which the field will be narrowed to eight competitors. Round three will follow, after which there will be four bowlers remaining, who will return on Saturday for the semifinal round and the championship match, which will be nationally televised on CBS Sports Network at a later date.
Catone, a Second Team All-Northeast Conference selection, qualified for the Intercollegiate Singles Championship as one of the top seven finishers at the Stratford, New Jersey Sectional on March 9.
