Another Winning Day On The Lanes As Terriers Take Three of Five

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's bowling team continued play at the McKendree University Bearcat Open in Fairview Heights, Illinois on Saturday with five traditional team matches.  After a pair of close decisions which did not go their way, the Terriers responded by winning the final three matches of the day, improving their record over the two days of pool play to 6-4.
 
University of Central Missouri 956, St. Francis Brooklyn 947
Despite an impressive clean 263 game, begun with five consecutive strikes, by sophomore Taylor Waglione, the Terriers fell nine pins short against the Jennies in the day-opening position round match.  Junior Lexis Ortiz added a 189 for the Terriers and junior Kimmi D'Ottavio rolled a 174. 
 
Tusculum University 891, St. Francis Brooklyn 872
Ortiz led the Terriers with a strong 219 game, featuring a run of six consecutive strikes beginning in the fifth frame, and Waglione continued her fine bowling with a 198, but the Terriers were outscored by Tusculum in the second round of the day's action.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn 912, Valparaiso University 885
Bowling against her hometown team, sophomore Heather Waters struck in five of the first six frames en route to a team leading 223, and D'Ottavio also eclipsed the double-century mark with a 207, as St. Francis entered the win column by topping the Crusaders of Valparaiso by 27 pins in the day's middle match.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn 909, University of Alabama-Birmingham 876
D'Ottavio's clean 222, finished out with five strikes in a row, led the Terrier charge against the Blazers, as St. Francis picked up a 33 pin decision to even their mark on the day at 2-2.  Waglione remained consistent on the day with another nice game, finishing with a 190 score.

In the day's final match, the trio of D'Ottavio (187), senior Taylor Smith (185) and Waglione (184) each filled nine of their ten frames to lead St. Francis to their most convincing victory of the afternoon against North Central College.

The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with a trio of best-of-seven Baker format matches as the teams are seeded into a bracket to determine the final tournament standings.
