Women’s Basketball Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Defeat Saint Francis (PA)

Fisher leads team with 18 points, Bandoma notches double-double

BROOKLYN, NY – St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball took on Saint Francis (PA) in Northeast Conference action Saturday evening, defeating the Red Flash by a score of 62-54 to improve to 4-2 in league play. The Terriers trailed for a majority of the contest but remained close and outscored the visitors 22-10 in the final frame. 

Alyssa Fisher led the team with 18 points. Sarah Bandoma took control down low, finishing with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Zharia Hutchinson added 10 points. 

The Red Flash scored the first five points of the contest before Sarah Bandoma scored four straight points to get the offense going. The quarter went back-and-forth, and the Terriers took their first lead on a Sheridan Kavanagh three-pointer to go ahead 9-6. The visitors closed the period with a 9-1 run to lead 15-10. 

The deficit reached seven points in the second quarter at 19-12, but the remainder of the half went the way of Terriers as St. Francis Brooklyn managed to score in transition on multiple occasions. The two sides traded free throws in the final minute and the score was knotted at 25 at the break. 

An early run gave the Terriers a four-point edge in the third quarter, but the Red Flash battled back to take a two-point lead. The two sides continued to stay close in a stanza that featured several runs. An Alyssa Fisher floater made it 38-33 in favor of St. Francis Brooklyn, but an 11-2 run by Saint Francis (PA) created a four-point deficit heading to the final quarter. 

Bandoma and Fisher teamed up for a quick 5-0 run to grab another lead and despite the Red Flash stopping the spurt with a basket, the Terriers kept the pedal down to take control. Angena Belloso beat the shot clock with a lay-in and added a crucial three-pointer to make it a two-possession game. Neither team scored for nearly two minutes after, but Fisher made another shot to make it 55-49. 

From there, Saint Francis (PA) would not get within three points the rest of the way and the Terriers added free throws by Tyra Myers and Fisher to close out the victory. 

Myers and Belloso added nine points apiece to round out the team's balanced scoring effort.

St. Francis Brooklyn will return to action on Thursday for a home matchup with Wagner, who sits alone in first place after an FDU loss. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
