BOSTON, MA – St. Francis Brooklyn hit the floor for the first of five straight road games on Wednesday, falling to Boston University by a score of 72-61 at Case Gym. Despite falling behind early, the team rallied and consistently stayed within reach of the Patriot League preseason favorites but couldn't get over the hump to take a lead.
"We played tough today," head coach Linda Cimino said. "BU is a big and experienced team and I'm proud of our players not backing down and competing every possession."
Alyssa Fisher led the way with 19 points on five-of-nine shooting from three-point land. She was followed by Ella Ogier's 10 points. Angena Belloso and Sarah Bandoma contributed nine points apiece.
A tough start hurt St. Francis Brooklyn, as the team fell behind 18-5 in the early going. Despite the early deficit, the Terriers battled back to make it 22-14 after the first quarter. Belloso made a driving lay-up to bring it to an eight-point hurdle to climb over the final three quarters.
The second quarter went back-and-forth, but an important 8-2 run for St. Francis Brooklyn cut it to 30-26. Ogier nailed a three-pointer to make it the tightest the half had seen since BU led 7-5 in the early going. The hosts would then score five straight points, but it was countered by five straight points by the St. Francis Brooklyn to make it 35-30 after 20 minutes of action.
Tyra Myers started the third quarter with some optimism, as she knocked down a three-pointer in the team's first possession. Trailing by just two points, it was as close as the margin would come at the 9:46 mark of the third frame. The two sides would start knocking down shots, but it was BU who closed on a 9-1 run to lead 58-45 with a quarter remaining.
The margin fluctuated between nine and 15 points over the course of the fourth quarter, but Boston University took the victory 72-61.
Sheriden Kavanagh scored the final points of the afternoon for St. Francis Brooklyn, and finished with seven points and seven rebounds.
The Terriers will continue road action at Youngstown State on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
