BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY– The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's basketball team (6-16, 2-9) fell to the Mountaineers of Mount St. Mary's (MD) (13-9, 8-2) in their first ever meeting, by a score of 67-62 from the Daniel Lynch Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. This marks the fourth consecutive contest against one another, where the scoring margin would be in single-digits.
Coming off a tough defeat at their newest conference rival, Merrimack, the Terriers were primed to make a statement on their home court in front of former student-athletes on Athletic Alumni Day on campus. St. Francis College would start things off by trading buckets with their opponent till junior forward
Abby Anderson followed her co-captain,
Ally Lassen and netted a lay-up to give her squad a 13-9 advantage.
The second stanza would feature the Terriers' seeing the Mount coming for them at a rapid pace, as Mountaineers' Harrison would sink home a pair of triples to tie the game at 26, while freshman guard
Alyssa Fisher would give her squad the lead with less than a minute to go, before Mount's Rebecca Lee would tally one home at the buzzer heading into the locker room up by one.
Out of the locker room, the Mountaineers would outscore the Terriers by a score of 7-1 to earn themselves a 10-point lead off the heels of Mounts' Bresee to give themselves a 41-31 lead. St. Francis College would narrow the lead to as little as six off the hands of freshman forward
Jenna Jordan and
Alyssa Fisher. To end the stanza, freshman guard
Cayln Richardson would net home a buzzer-beating triple to give the Terriers 42 points.
Keeping things interesting throughout the fourth-quarter, St. Francis College would narrow the lead to as little as four with a strong jump-shot from Jordan halfway through. Leading her squad back to eight points, Mounts' Michaela Harrison would convert yet another three-pointer extend the lead back to eight. Later in the contest with 39 seconds on the game-clock, junior forward
Abby Anderson would sink home a game-changing triple to narrow the lead to as little as two.
St. Francis College would not be able to hold the Mount as they would tally home the fate-sealer with a Mountaineers bucket. Followed by the offensive foul on Lassen, to give the opposition one trip to the line, and extend the lead to five.
Statistics would show that the Terriers would win the battle in the paint with 30 points, as opposed to 28. The aforementioned Terriers would also tally home 16 points off turnovers, as the Mount would only secure nine points. Leading in bench points as well, were the Terriers as Anderson secured all 13. Second chance points were in favor of the home team, with eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Freshman forward Jenna Jordan led her team with 16 points on the afternoon, she would tally her second career double-double as well by grabbing 13 rebounds, and converting six-of-eight from the charity stripe in 33 minutes on the hardwood.
- Freshman guard Alyssa Fisher converted five-of-nine from the field, and etched 15 points into the scorebook. Fisher would grab five rebounds, steal a pair, and convert four out of a possible four from the free-throw line in 33 minutes on the floor.
- Junior forward Abby Anderson tallied 13 points on the afternoon, converted four-of-seven from the field, and one highlight reel of a triple late in the fourth quarter in three total attempts throughout. The Scranton, PA native also grabbed five rebounds and blocked one in 23 minutes of game-action.
- Freshman guard Cayln Richardson added nine points to the scoresheet, while assisting on three buckets, and stripping three from the Mountaineers, and converted four-of-nine from the field in 34 minutes on the hardwood.
