SMITHFIELD, RI– The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's basketball team (0-2, 0-2) fell to the Bulldogs of Bryant University (4-2, 2-0) by a score of 78-61 from the Chace Athletic Center on Wednesday afternoon.
Coming off an emotional defeat last night against the same Bulldogs, the Terriers were not willing to head home without putting up a fight. The first two buckets tallied for St. Francis Brooklyn came off the hot hands of senior forward
Ally Lassen, and sophomore guard
Alyssa Fisher. The latter, has a knack for the Bulldogs, as she set a pair of career-highs against Bryant, both inside the Chace Athletic Center. Last season, Fisher tallied a then-career high 17 points. While setting a new career high last night with 19.
Following their deficit of double-digit points in the first half, the Terriers were sure to conclude the second stanza on a positive note, as freshman forward
Zharia Hutchinson tallied her first two points of the night, with a buzzer-beating basket to send both programs' into their respective locker rooms.
The Terriers wouldn't go away easily, as they strung together a 10-2 run in the latter part of the first half, that would carry over into the third quarter. The scoring would continue, as Fisher would sink home a trey to narrow the lead to single digits. They continued to push, as freshman guard
Carmen Segura narrowed the lead even farther.
Bryant would string together another set of runs and extend its lead even further. St. Francis Brooklyn won the battle of bench points by a score of 23-22. Finally, stole eight as opposed to Bryant's seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 61 | Bryant - 78
- Sophomore guard Alyssa Fisher registered 12 points on the afternoon. Fisher would convert four-of-11from the field. All four of those were from beyond-the-arc. She also grabbed a pair of rebounds, assisted on three baskets, and stole one in 31 minutes on the hardwood.
- Senior forward Ally Lassen recorded 11 points, grabbed three rebounds, blocked and stole one each. The Point Pleasant, NJ native also tallied three-of-four from the charity stripe. The third point from the line, gave Lassen sole possession of 15th place on the all-time free-throws completed chart (210). She surpassed Jaymee Veney '15 (209).
- Freshman guard Carmen Segura tallied 11 points in four-of-12 converted in the field. Segura would assist on a pair of baskets, grab one rebounds, and tally a pair of treys in a team-high 37 minutes on the floor.
- Freshman forward Fruzsina Horvath registered 10 points on the afternoon. Grabbed seven rebounds, assisted on one, stole one, and converted four-of-seven from the field in 22 minutes on the hardwood.
- Freshman guard Eszter Varga recorded 10 points. She converted five-of-seven from the field, assisted on five buckets, and stole a trio in 25 minutes on the court.
