Terriers Return to Winning Ways with Sunday Victory over Bryant

Nevena Dimitrijevic led the Terriers in points and assists in the win.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball team (9-7, 5-3 NEC) continued a three-game homestand on Sunday afternoon hosting Bryant; the first meeting of the season with the Bulldogs.

The Terriers came into the game with wins in four of their last five, and made it five wins in their last six games with a 69-56 victory over Bryant.

Three SFBK players finished in double-figure scoring.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Coming into a starting lineup that had three changes from their last time out, Isabella Posset started the game quick, scoring the first five points of the game.

With 4:12 to play in the quarter, Nevena Dimitrijevic drained a pull up jumper to make it 11-6, equaling a 6-0 run for SFBK.

Later on, good penetration from Dimitrijevic allowed her to dish back out to Fruzsina Horvath for an open three, which made the contest 16-7 with 2:45 to play in the first. The Terriers would take a 20-9 advantage into the second quarter.

Just over two minutes into the second period, a Dimitrijevic steal and pretty dish behind the back to find Khaleah Edwards made it 25-14.

Later in the quarter, Horvath, making just her second appearance since returning from injury, scored with a smart move to make it 33-21 with 2:20 to play, as she remained perfect from the field early on.

The Terriers would lead by as many as 14 points in the first half, and a carry a 35-21 advantage to the locker room at halftime.

Eszter Varga's layup to open the second half, followed by a Khaleah Edwards pull up jumper, gave SFBK its largest lead of afternoon. Jaila Lee drove to the hoop and scored on the next possession to push the lead to 18 points and cap a 6-0 run.

A 5-0 run got the Bulldogs back to within 13 with help from Brooke Bjelko, who was the Bulldogs leading scorer on the afternoon with 21 points. Bryant continued to chip away at the Terriers' lead, and 10 points separated the teams heading into the fourth quarter after Ally Lassen scored with time expiring in the third.

Lassen scored again with a reverse layup to open the fourth, making it a 7-0 run for the home team dating back to the end of the third quarter.

With 6:17 to play in the game, a three ball from Bryant's Alana Perkins got the Bulldogs within eight, but Dimitrijevic answered with a triple of her own on the following possession to give her team a 61-50 lead.

With just over two minutes to play, Bjelko missed a chance from close range to make it a six point deficit for the Bulldogs. Ally Lassen completed a three point play on the other end to make it 65-54 SFBK. The five point swing iced the win for the Terriers, and they closed out with a 69-56 victory.
