Women's Basketball Drops Battle of NEC Leaders against FDU

Ally Lassen led the way for the team with a season high 20 points.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball team was set for a battle between two of the top three teams in the Northeast Conference when they welcomed Fairleigh Dickinson to Lynch Gymnasium on Friday night.

After knocking off the third of those top three NEC teams, Wagner, and rival LIU in the fourth quarter of their previous two games, the Terriers were unable to secure a third consecutive late game comeback against the Knights. SFBK (8-7, 4-4 NEC) fell to FDU (9-8, 6-1 NEC), 62-72.

HOW IT HAPPENED

St. Francis Brooklyn's Khaleah Edwards answered an early pair of FDU baskets to start the game with a quick four points of her own, scored on consecutive possessions and assisted both times by Nevena Dimitrijevic

Reigning NEC Rookie of the Year Fruzsina Horvath made her return from injury after two months out, scoring her first points of the game on a three ball eight minutes into the quarter. The game was tight at the end of the first with just two points to separate the teams.

The Knights continued to push SFBK in the second quarter, opening up a seven point lead with an 8-1 run, which was halted when Isabella Posset found Horvath for an easy two. Ally Lassen was the pacesetter for the Terriers in the first half, scoring nine points. But her team was still down seven headed into the break.

Heading into the third quarter, the Terriers were able to push the ball up the floor with some success, as Isabella Posset found Khaleah Edwards open for three, which cut the deficit to six. But FDU's Aniya Bell and Madison Stanley were on their game, and the Knights opened up a 14 point lead in the late stages of the quarter.

Despite their recent knack for turning around fourth quarter deficits, the Terriers were unable to put together a sustained run to threaten FDU's advantage. FDU took their largest lead of the night, 17 points, off of a Stanley three, who scored a game high 25 points on the night. The Terriers fought their way back, but it wasn't enough in the end.

TEAM LEADERS

Ally Lassen led the way for the Terriers with 20 points, a season high for her, on 7-13 shooting and nine visits to the foul line. She also hauled in five rebounds.

Nevena Dimitrijevic had 13 points and collected a team high eight rebounds and four assists.

NEXT UP: The Terriers host Bryant for a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. Tickets are available through the Terrier Ticket Office and all the action will be streamed on NEC Front Row.
