Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Terriers Fall Short against Red Flash in Waning Moments

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY– The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's basketball team (3-10, 3-10) fell just short to the Red Flash on Saint Francis University (11-4, 9-0) by a score of 56-55, inside the Daniel Lynch '38 Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Looking to return from the overtime thriller in positive fashion, the Terriers were on the board within a couple of seconds off a freshman forward Fruzsina Horvath triple, following a Swogger opening jump shot. Later in the first quarter, sophomore guard Alyssa Fisher put her defensive skills on display, once again, as she poked one away from Nicols, followed by sinking in a lay-up to begin a run for her squad.

The Terriers sparked some more offense in the second quarter that featured a pair of back-to-back buckets for freshman forward Zharia Hutchinson to narrow the Red Flash's lead to as little as two. This included a handling lay-up from Horvath in the paint for a bucket, and narrow the lead to as little as two once again.

While Saint Francis ended the half on a single-digit run, the Terriers returned from the locker room in style, as Fisher opened the second half with a triple off a turnover caused by sophomore guard Nevena Dimitrijevic.

St. Francis Brooklyn showed they weren't done fighting, as the Terriers concluded the game on a 9-0 run, and 11-2 overall. Fisher and Van Ness combined for nine points in the final three minutes to come within just one point of taking down the Red Flash, but were unable to grab the victory. The final triple from Fisher, came within two seconds away from the final buzzer. With two fouls to give for the Red Flash with less than five seconds, the Terriers weren't able to head to the free-throw line.

The Terriers earned 15 points off the Red Flash's 17 turnovers, as well as grabbing 10 second chance points. The Terriers also won the battle of fast break opportunities 18-4.
