Terriers Earn Second Consecutive Victory against Bryant on Friday Evening

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY– The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's basketball team (8-17, 4-10) earned their second consecutive victory over the Bulldogs of Bryant University (8-17, 6-8) by a score of 80-77 inside the Daniel Lynch Gymnasium on Friday evening.
 
Looking to build momentum off the victory against Long Island University six days ago inside the Steinberg Wellness Center, the Terriers return to the friendly confines of the Pope Physical Education Center and kick things off with a three-pointer from junior guard Alyssa Fisher five minutes into the contest to give her squad a four-point lead early on. A pair of baskets from the opposition would put Bryant within one. Trading baskets would be the verdict the remainder of the stanza, as junior forward Ally Lassen would give her squad a 16-13 lead at the end of 10 minutes on the hardwood.
 
Out of the locker room, the Terriers would trail the Bulldogs by seven after falling behind by as much 10 in the second stanza. Leading the charge would be freshman guard Nevena Dimitrijevic, as she would tally eight consecutive points to narrow Bryant's lead to just three and a Mary Burke timeout. The Bulldogs would respond and extend their lead to seven once again, before junior forward Abby Anderson changed the tempo and scored the team's first basket in nearly five minutes. Ending the stanza, junior guard Melody Van Ness was left wide-open at the top of the key as she would sink home her third triple with three second left on the clock. The Somerville, NJ native would rally the Terriers from behind and close the gap to within one point.
 
The fourth quarter for the Terriers turned out to be one for the ages, as St. Francis College Brooklyn would retake the lead on a remarkable Dimitrijevic layup by a score of 56-55. The Terriers would continue to add points to the scoresheet, and extend its lead to as much as 10 with just five minutes remaining. The Bulldogs would show some life in them, as they would not go away, with a Gallagher three-pointer to narrow the lead to just a basket with 31 seconds in regulation. Freshman guard Nevena Dimitrijevic would tally the final pair of free-throws to take home their eighth victory of the campaign, and second in a row.
 
The Terriers would win the battle with 21 fast break points as opposed to just a pair for Bryant. St. Francis College would also earn 18 points off turnovers committed by Bryant.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Freshman guard Nevena Dimitrijevic tallied a team high 27 points on the evening, grabbed three boards, assisted on nine baskets, and stole three. The Serbian native converted 10-of-17 from the field, and added five triples to the scorebook in 38 minutes on the hardwood.
  • Junior forward Abby Anderson recorded eight points, grabbed 10 rebounds, assisted on a pair, and stole one in 35 minutes on the court.
  • Freshman guard Alyssa Fisher converted six-of-13 from the field, where she would total 17 points. Fisher would add an assist, grab a pair of rebounds, and tally both shots attempted in her one trip to the free-throw line.
  • Junior forward Ally Lassen etched 15 points to the scoresheet, grabbed four rebounds, assisted on a basket, stole one, and converted six-of-10 from the field in 27 minutes on the court.
  • Junior guard Melody Van Ness added three triples to the score and total nine points in 11 minutes of game-action.
