BALTIMORE, MD – The St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball team (5-3) picked up a thrilling three-overtime victory on Friday evening with a 75-70 defeat of the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds.
After falling behind 8-0 to start the game, the Terriers got on the board with a crowd quieting three-pointer from the left wing by red-shirt junior guard
Mia Ehling, at the 7:25 mark in the first quarter. Once finding their groove, the Greyhounds scored six points in the second quarter. The Terriers were then able to find their momentum as the game carried on.
The Greyhounds weren't done fighting, as they narrowly outscored the Terriers, 15-13, in the third quarter. Back and forth action commenced as the Terriers played the same pace as the Greyhounds.
In the final seconds of the game, an inbound from freshman guard
Ebony Horton to senior guard
Maria Palarino, paved the way for Horton to find a lane to the basket as she netted her team's 53
rd point to tie the game with 0.9 seconds remaining in regulation.
The first two overtime periods were back and forth, with neither side taking a substantial lead. The Terriers controlled the third overtime as they overwhelmed the Greyhounds. As a team, St. Francis Brooklyn shot 35.8 percent (24-of-67) from the field, and helped their cause with a 73.1 free-throw percentage to seal the victory in Baltimore.
