Women's Basketball Secures Regular Season Sweep of Central Connecticut State

Terriers push the pace offensively, win 70-61

NEW BRITAIN, CT – St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball hit the road for a Northeast Conference matchup with Central Connecticut State Thursday evening. The Terriers pushed the pace and used a momentous third quarter to defeat the Blue Devils by a score of 70-61.

Senior guard Alyssa Fisher led the team with 25 points, making all 10 of her free throw attempts. Sarah Bandoma scored 11 of her 14 points in the first half, adding 12 rebounds for her second double-double in her last four games. Tyra Myers added 13 points and four rebounds.

The game went back-and-forth to start, but the Terriers maintained an edge for the majority of the first quarter. Bandoma scored the team's first four points and Myers added five of the next seven points to help grab an 11-8 lead. A frenetic first 10 minutes came to an end on a lay-in by Bandoma to give the Terriers an 18-16 advantage.

The defenses would clamp down in the second quarter, but it was the Terriers who made shots when it counted to extend the lead. Bella Green went on to make a key bucket with under a minute remaining and Bandoma added a conventional three-point play to make it 30-21 going into the locker room. Bandoma had 11 points and seven boards at the break.

The third quarter was where the story was written, as Fisher sparked the offense to a 14-6 run to start the period. She had seven points in the opening three minutes and added eight more for a total of 15 points over the span of the quarter. The Blue Devils got to within 14 points twice, but another Terrier bucket made it 52-36 after three quarters of play.

Over the final frame, Central Connecticut State chipped away on some hot shooting, getting to within five points late in the contest. Surrounded by a loud crowd at Detrick Gymnasium, the Terriers calmly hit all 10 of their free throws over the last 38 seconds to seal the win. Bandoma corralled several key offensive rebounds to extend possessions and the Terriers left with a 70-61 victory.

The team had 38 rebounds on the evening compared to Central Connecticut State's 29. They made 18-of-20 free throws. Katie Januszewska had seven points off the bench.
