Nevena Dimitrijevic Earns Seventh NEC Rookie of the Week Award

SOMERSET, NJ– The Northeast Conference recognized freshman guard Nevena Dimitrijevic as Rookie of the Week on Wednesday afternoon. The Serbian native becomes the first Terrier to garner the award seven times.

Leading all conference rookies, Dimitrijevic averaged 13.5 points-per-game, four and a half assists, and grabbed an average of four rebounds against both Sacred Heart and Merrimack respectively. The Serbian native would tally her eighth 20+ point performance of the season. Against the Pioneers in Fairfield, she converted six-of-nine from the field, and added six points out of a possible six from the charity stripe. Most recently against the Warriors on Monday evening, Dimitrijevic tallied seven points, six boards, and assisted on five baskets.

The Serbian native set the conference record for a single-game in scoring by a freshman. The game represented a bounced back performance as Dimitrijevic was limited to just a basket on Saturday, February 8 vs. Mount St. Mary's. She would follow up by tallying a career-high 31 points on Monday, February 10 against Bryant. Dimitrijevic grabbed three rebounds, assisted on five baskets, and stole three in 35 minutes on the hardwood. She would convert 14-of-26 shots from the field.

Scoring 30 points in a single game has not been done by a Terrier since the 2018-19 campaign, when Jade Johnson succeeded the feat against Saint Francis University on February 25, when the Australian native scored 31. In the conference this season, only five student-athletes have broken the 30-point plateau. The Terriers are also the only team who have a pair of players in the respective category, the aforementioned Dimitrijevic, and junior forward Ally Lassen who tallied 30 against Sacred Heart on February 1.

Dimitrijevic becomes the fourth Terrier to garner three or more Rookie of the Week Awards. Back in 2001-02, Kim Weir took home three. While Leah Fechko earned three of the respective awards during her rookie season in 2012-13.

This past weekend against Sacred Heart and Merrimack, Dimitrijevic would surpass Sharon McAdams (168, 1980-81) on the single-season assists list. The Serbian native now sits third all-time just prior to the Central Connecticut road contest. Up next is Sandy Salerno (192, 1990-91), who sits second all-time.

The Terriers' freshman guard has etched her name into the tops of numerous categories on the conference's lists that includes eight 20-point contests. She ranks third in the respective category. Her teammate, Jade Johnson has six, while Merrimack's Denia Davis-Stewart sits on top with 14. Dimitrijevic has a pair of contests, where she recorded double-digit assists, against NJIT, and Long Island University. She also has a pair of double-doubles on the campaign. Ranks sixth in scoring (14.2 PPG). First in assists (174, 6.21 APG). Sixth in steals (50, 1.79 SPG). Second in assist/turnover ratio (1.74). Nationally, Dimitrijevic sits for ninth place in the NCAA in assists-per-game with 6.2, and ninth in total assists.
