WARWICK, RI – St. Francis College Brooklyn women's basketball head coach
Linda Cimino was inducted into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Hall of Fame, last night at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. Additionally, Cimino served as speaker for the 2019 Hall of Fame induction class.
"Being inducted into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Hall of Fame, is an incredible honor. I'm blessed to have made a career out of my passion and will never forget my roots as I'll always consider Rhode Island home," said Cimino.
Following years of success on the high school level, all the way to the collegiate level, Cimino was recognized for her role in coaching since the age of 22. Most recently, the Rhode Island native set the program record at St. Francis College Brooklyn for most conference victories in a single-season (12) during her first season on Remsen Street.
Coach Cimino attended North Smithfield High School in her native Rhode Island, where she was a part of the Girls' Varsity basketball team. She broke the program's scoring record with 1,224 points, and earned Female Athlete of the Year.
Following her time in New England, and Adelphi University on Long Island for collegiate studies, Cimino took her talents to Caldwell in New Jersey, where she served as the women's basketball head coach. The accomplishments speak for themselves, as she concluded the eight-year run as the program's all-time leader in wins with 128, and earned a CACC Championship title in 2011. During her time in the America East and Binghamton University, Cimino would be named the conference's Coach of the Year in 2016 and guided the program to its first national postseason victory in the 2018 WBI.
Known nationally, Cimino was appointed the Chair of the NCAA Women's Basketball Rules Committee a season ago. Once at St. Francis, Cimino received the opportunity to coach a pair of Australians in
Amy O'Neill and current senior
Jade Johnson, who both etched their way into the program's record book during the 2018-19 record-breaking campaign. Additionally, Cimino coached Point Pleasant, NJ native
Ally Lassen, who scored 10.2 points per game in 2018-19 and earned the top spot on the NEC's field-goal percentage leaderboard as a sophomore.
Coach Cimino and her Terriers open the 2019-20 campaign on Tuesday, November 5, when they welcome the Seawolves of Stony Brook University to the Daniel Lynch Gymnasium at the Pope Physical Education Center for a 7 p.m. opening tip.
