Women's Basketball Falls on the Road to UPenn

Quakers get hot from long distance in first half

PHILADELPHIA, PA. - St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball took on Ivy League member UPenn Thursday evening at the Palestra, falling by a score of 78-44. The Quakers began the contest by making eight of their first 12 three-pointers, and the early deficit proved to be too much for the Terriers.

Sarah Bandoma led the team with 10 points and nine rebounds. She now has 22 rebounds over her last two contests. Bella Green and Eszter Varga added six points apiece.

The Quakers scored the first nine points of the game, before Angena Belloso came in off the bench to knock down a three-pointer. From there UPenn stayed hot, knocking down seven three-pointers to lead 33-11 after the first quarter.

The defenses clamped down in the second, but it was the Quakers who remained on top. Varga scored four points in the frame.

St. Francis Brooklyn opened the third quarter on an 8-0 run. Bandoma scored six of those points and the deficit was cut to 46-25. The Quakers rallied back, but the Terriers took the quarter 16-13.

The fourth quarter saw the hosts go on an early 8-0 run themselves before the Terriers matched their points the rest of the way. When it was all said and done, Penn went on to win its fourth straight game.

Bandoma added four blocks for the Terriers. Ella Ogier matched a season-high four assists.

St. Francis Brooklyn will continue road action Saturday afternoon against Stony Brook. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
