FAIRFIELD, CT – St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball took on Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Terriers ran into hot shooting from the hosts and fell by a score of 76-60 to fall to 2-1 in conference play.
Tyra Myers led the offense with 17 points, one point shy of tying a career high. Alyssa Fisher added 13 points and Angena Belloso contributed 11 points and four steals.
The Terriers made the first bucket of the game as Sheridan Kavanagh made a short jumper off a feed by Sarah Bandoma, but Sacred Heart caught fire from deep and took the lead. A Bandoma lay-in cut it to 11-8 before a closing 15-8 Pioneer run made it 26-16 after the first stanza. The Pioneers hit all six of their three-point attempts.
Sacred Heart kept the pedal down early in the second, leading by as many as 21 points. The Terrier defense clamped down to end the half, holding the hosts scoreless for the final 3:46. An Angena Belloso steal and lay-in made it 41-25 at the break.
The second half opened with Sacred Heart going on a 9-2 run to extend the advantage to 50-27. The remainder of the quarter went-back-and-forth and Myers ended the frame on a high note with a made jumper at the buzzer to get to 11 points on the afternoon.
The freshman continued her prowess in the final quarter, scoring six more points. Jada McMillan scored her first field goal of the season and added another, finishing with four points. The Terriers outscored the Pioneers 19-12 over the final 10 minutes.
Eszter Varga added seven points and Bandoma scored six points to go along with five rebounds and two blocks.
