Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Battles Back for Last Minute Win over Mount, 62-59, Second Consecutive NEC Victory

The Terriers powered up a 7-1 run in the closing minutes to seal their second straight road win.

EMMITSBURG, Mary. - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball team (6-6, 2-2 NEC) defeated their Northeast Conference foes Mount St. Mary's (3-8, 1-3 NEC), 62-59, in a thrilling contest Saturday afternoon.

The game would go down to the final buzzer, with the Terriers firing off a 7-1 run in the closing minutes. The decisive play came on a Mount possession with 15 seconds to go when SFBK's Alyssa Fisher came up with a huge steal and was fouled in the process, and then sank two pressure free throws to give the Terriers a three point advantage.

Ally Lassen was able to stake her claim on the low post to the tune of a team-high 19 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game opened with both teams playing high intensity man to man defense forcing each other into turnovers. But it was St. Francis who were able to convert them into points more often, with 18 of their points coming off turnovers compared to Mount's seven.

On the offensive end, the Terriers looked to get the ball down low to Ally Lassen early and often, and had a lot of success in doing so. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, they were able to successfully run their opponents off the arc, and the Mountaineers didn't make a three pointer until midway through the 2nd quarter.

Another theme of the contest was the Terriers' dominance on the boards, who hauled in a massive 17 offensive rebounds compared to the Mountaineers' four. This proved to be vital down the stretch for Brooklyn when Jaila Lee tied the game with a three ball with two minutes to play, which was created by an Ally Lassen offensive rebound.

TEAM LEADERS

Ally Lassen scored a team high 19 points. Her 20 attempted FGs were also the most for the Terriers.

Jaila Lee was the clutch performer for the Terriers, adding 16 points of her own and converting 4 of 4 attempts from behind the arc, with several of those coming in big moments down the stretch. She also had seven rebounds (five of them on the offensive glass).

Alyssa Fisher was the Terriers' third leading scorer with 13 points, and was also active on the defensive side with three steals, including the game clinching one in the final moments.

NEXT UP: The Terriers have a week off, and then they'll be back at home to host Wagner on January 15th at 7:00 PM.
