St. Francis Brooklyn (1-2) opens up action in the Terrier Invitational on Friday, August 31, at 3 p.m. against NJIT (0-3). The Highlanders have dropped three-straight matches to open up the season and are participating in the Terrier Invitational every year since 2009. The Terriers fell to NJIT, 3-1, in their lone meeting last season. The Highlanders finished the 2017 season (12-19, 2-12 ASUN) and were picked to finish ninth in the ASUN Preseason Poll.

The Terriers play two matches on Saturday the first coming against Cal State Fullerton (2-1) at 2 p.m., which is the first-ever meeting between the teams in history. The Titans wrapped up the 2017 campaign (5-24, 1-15 Big West) and were selected ninth in the Big West Preseason Poll. Cal State Fullerton is set to play four matches on its east coast trip, three coming in the Terrier Invitational and one coming against Manhattan on Thursday.

St. Francis Brooklyn's last match of the Terrier Invitational comes against Delaware State (0-3). The Terriers last faced the Hornets on September 20, 2016, and picked up a 3-1 victory. Delaware State compiled a (3-25, 3-9 MEAC) mark last season. The Hornets were tabbed fifth in the MEAC Northern Division Preseason Poll.
EARLY SEASON ACCOLADES:
Junior
Taris Pittman and freshman
Kizzy Rodriguez were both honored for their standout play following their first three matches of the season. Pittman was named to the Eagle Challenge All-Tournament Team, while Rodriguez was tabbed a Prime Performer by the Northeast Conference.
MEET THE TERRIERS:
The Terriers return 12 student-athletes to the team this season and have added three freshmen to round out the roster of 15.

2017 RECAP:
St. Francis Brooklyn wrapped up the 2017 season (8-21, 2-12 NEC). The Terriers recorded their first-ever All-NEC First Teamer when graduating senior
Aleksandra Gligoric was tabbed with the honor. Returners
Ally Speweik,
Taris Pittman, and
Vanja Miljacic filled up the stat sheet offensively for the Terriers.
Ally Speweik tallied 236 kills and 2.54 kills per set, which ranked second on the team in both categories.
Miljacic registered 171 kills and 1.82 kills per set, while Pittman notched 126 kills and 1.27 kills per set.
Nina Tiedt and Gabriella Nóbrega set up the attackers as they recorded 486 and 479 assists respectively.
Mireya Ramirez and
Angie Speweik led the team in digs. Ramirez finished the year with 230, while
Angie Speweik had 303.
The Terriers went on a season-long three-match winning streak from September 9-15. Over the course of the winning streak St. Francis Brooklyn knocked off Holy Cross, Saint Peter's, and Marist. The five-set victory over Marist marked the first time in program history that the Terriers knocked off the perennial MAAC contender.
UP NEXT:
St. Francis Brooklyn is back in action on Friday, September 7, when it takes part in the Henson Hawk Invitational at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The Terriers are slated to play three matches, the first coming against Maryland Eastern Shore followed by a pair of contests on Saturday (vs. Hampton, vs. South Carolina State).
