SOMERSET, NJ – St. Francis Brooklyn freshman libero
Kizzy Rodriguez has been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league this afternoon.
Rodriguez becomes the first student-athlete in program history to claim the NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor. She is also the first freshman to take home the award since LIU Brooklyn's Natalia Rivera did so in 2016.
The Las Vegas native recorded double-digit digs in all three matches in a 2-1 weekend for the Terriers. Rodriguez recorded 19 digs against NJIT, 12 digs against Cal State Fullerton, and 13 digs against Delaware State. Over the course of three matches, she averaged 4.89 digs per set and earned a place on the Terrier Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Through six matches this season, Rodriguez leads the NEC in digs per set (4.84) and ranks fourth in total digs (92). She has registered 10 or more digs in five of the six matches she has played in this season.
The Terriers are back in action tonight when they host Rider at 7 p.m. from the Genovesi Center in Brooklyn Heights, NY.
