Koc Leads Three Honored by NEC in Weekly Awards

Freshman named Rookie of the week, teammates Meléndez and Colón tabbed Prime Performers

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY - Three members of the St. Francis Brooklyn women's volleyball team have been honored by the Northeast Conference (NEC) this week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. Freshman setter Selina Koc leads the group, being named NEC Rookie of the Week. Teammates Camelia Meléndez and Alasha Colón were named Prime Performers to round out the Terriers honored this week.

Koc put together a stellar performance in a 3-1 win over LIU Saturday. She handed out 42 assists, adding 11 digs and four blocks. It was her second straight double-double and fourth of the season. Three of her four blocks were solo blocks, including two vital rejections down the stretch. Her 42 assists were the second-most she has had in a match in 2022. This is her third time being honored by the conference this season.

Meléndez recorded another 20-plus kill performance, notching 22 finishes to lead the team. It was her third straight contest with at least 20 kills and the fourth time she has done so this season. Meléndez finished the match with a kill to secure the victory. This is her fifth time being honored by the conference this season.

Colón led the back line in the win, recording 26 digs. The sophomore was a key piece in keeping points alive and also added five assists. She now has 297 total digs on the season, and has had 20 or more digs in three straight matches. This is her fourth time being honored by the conference this season.

The trio and the rest of the Terriers continue their home stand this weekend, with contests against Central Connecticut State on Friday and Sacred Heart on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 5:00 p.m and air live on NEC Front Row.
