Three Swimmers Tabbed NEC Prime Performers

Matheus Santos recognized from the men’s team, Pistrin and Lopez earn honors on the women’s side

BROOKLYN, NY – Three members of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named Northeast Conference (NEC) Prime Performers following competition at ECAC Championships this weekend. Daniel Matheus Santos of the men's team and Elayna Pistrin and Mariajose Lopez of the women's team all contributed significant team points and had top finishes in their respective events. 

Matheus Santos paced the Terriers in the 100-yard freestyle, taking third with a time of 45.22 seconds. He and four others on the team made the top 16 in the event, which proved to the best overall event for St. Francis Brooklyn. The senior also took third in the 200-yard freestyle and helped two relay teams to fourth-place finishes. 

Pistrin led the women's team in points contributed, garnering one fourth-place finish and two sixth-place finishes. She made the "A" finals three times and made one "B" finals. The Victoria, Austrailia native's top finish was in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her two sixth-place nods were in the 400-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke. 

Lopez continued her distance prowess, taking second in the 1,650-yard freestyle and adding an eighth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Her two "A" finals opportunities were second on the team to Pistrin's three. She was also a finals qualifier in the 400-yard IM. 

The Terriers will next compete on January 14 in a meet against St. Peter's.
